There are many opportunities to study animals around our house. For a second year in a row we were graced by the presence of a snapping turtle (I think). This is not the same one as last year as this one was a little smaller. This happened when we had the 3 extra kids here so it was fun to have all 8 kids runny towards this guy. The difference this year is that I learned my lesson and did NOT taunt him to bit and stick only to find that turtles can actually lunge rather quickly, at least quickly enough to make the Sterner seven jump and gasp. Tricky little buggers they are.
Here is the big guy basking in the sun in peace and quiet....until me and 8 kids arrived to start at him.

This is the exodus after having enough of all our gawking.

One last closer look.

He was a good sport through it all but eventually decided serenity was hopeless and went in search of a more peaceful place to be lazy.
