Heritage of Faith

On December 29th my Grandmother, Cornelia Maybell Ruth Vaughn, entered the gates of heaven and now enjoys time in the presence of our loving Father. She is happy, she is free of the bodily ravages of our fallen world, and she can sing her songs of praise with all the saints that she has said goodbye to over her 92 years of life.

My mind has been especially reflective as the circumstances generate the replaying of history over and over again. It has been a time where I can praise God for the matriarch of our family, the woman who helped instill deeply the need to have a heart for Jesus into her 4 kids and subsequently, the generations to follow. I was blessed to have a close relationship to her, one I will forever cherish.

My Tribute to my Grandmother:

1. for making faith your foundation
2. for being bold in your beliefs and instilling it in your family
3. for loving the hymns of faith and singing with such genuine passion
4. for opening your home to so many without thinking twice of yourself
5. for letting us play in the mud and for all the powder after our baths
6. for the picnics in the hayloft, rides on the mower, sleepovers, & cookies
7. for taking the time to have coffee with family and friends
8. for coming to all our activities and events to support us
9. for loving and treasuring new each new grandbaby---oh how you loved getting
the opportunity to hold each one
10. for caring more about mom through her cancer than the personal pains of your heart
11. for your kind words of encouragement for me as a mom and a wife---too
generous
12. for ministering so much to others
13. for seeing God's hand in all your beautiful flowers and honoring Him
14. for demonstrating an amazing work ethic
15. for laughing at my endless stories that life with 5 kids in 7 years can bring
16. for all the innumerable prayers you have prayed for ALL of us, priceless!
17. for telling me you loved me every time we talked
18. for caring more about people than things
19. for enduring life's blows with unshakable faith and laughter
20. for always believing the best about people no matter their actions
21. for hungering for the Word and for all the Bible studies you participated in
22. for loving our Savior above all things and for planting seeds for all eternity

I miss you so much and look forward to singing with you in heaven. Until then.....I love you!

A more recent picture of Grandma ....

and one from long ago.

Here is Grandma with all of her kids.

Here are my grandparents long ago and then at one of their last wedding anniversaries. They were both such a delight to know and grow up around. My life is richer because of their influence. I am so blessed.
